Okay, so time for today’s discussion topic: How do you prefer to spend your holiday: by staying at home or by going traveling? Remember, that in this case holiday doesn’t mean “the weekend” or “a day off work”, but a longer holiday like Golden Week, “Obon”, the summer holiday or New Years. Sometimes I feel that it’s better to just spend these holidays at home, relaxing or catching up on my cleaning, because the public transport system and many tourist attractions are often flooded with people during the major holiday seasons. But, I also feel that staying at home is a waste, so I guess I’d prefer to travel somewhere. But, I often have trouble deciding where to go and making definite travel plans, so I often end up going nowhere! One problem now is my boyfriend. He doesn’t like traveling because he does a lot of traveling with his job. So, even if I want to go somewhere during the holiday, he’s often very reluctant to join me. So, as a result, we very rarely go away on holiday!
Anyway, that’s enough about me. How about you guys? Please share with us your holiday preferences!

I always think about going somewhere during major holidays. However, there is a problem about money. It cost me a lot of money to go anywhere. Travel expenses are so expensive, aren't they? I don't like to spend money just to transfer to a destination. So, last winter, I went to Shimane, Osaka, and Kochi which is my hometown using "Seishun 18 ticket". It was very cheap but took me lots of hours. I was tired but had good experience. I want to travel as much as possible if I can.

I totally agree. Travelling costs a lot of money, and that's another reason why I don't do much travelling. For example, I'd love to just go to Italy or France or something... but I just don't have the money. Actually, I really want to go back to Australia this Christmas to see my family, but it will probably cost about 200,000 yen!! But, I think you have the right idea - if it's possible I think it's great to try travelling on a "shoe-string". I've never used "Seishun 18 ticket" before, but I think it's probably a great way to travel! Please make the most of your time during university to travel to many places around Japan... and of course overseas as well!!

I make it a rule not to travel on holidays, because travel expense is very high. So I mostly work during holidays and go out or travel somewhere on weekends.
I'm planing to go to "Kadori-dominion" in Kumamoto on September. It is big zoo and I can see many kinds of animals. This season, most people are not on holiday, so I don't have to worry about crowd or hotel expense.

I'd like to go somewhere if I have long bacation, because it is so boring for me to just stay home for some days. Lifetime is limited and when I become an old I won't be able to go around at the place that many people are there.
But, actually I wanna stay home and relax at the weekend because I'm busy everyday for my job.

I preferred to stay at home on holiday because I didn't like the places where there were many people. But recently I really like to go traveling!! Last month I went to Nagoya and it was great. And this summer I'm going to Osaka to join "Summer Sonic 08". It would be fantastic! After that, I'm going to Qingdao for a year. I think going many places is really good because we can try the local food and experience the atmosphere. So if you have time, you have to go traveling as long as you can.

I prefer to travel somewhere rather than to stay at home. Ordinally, I go to the university and do a part time job. Also, I must study for promoting my English skills!! So, I always keep to a room. Sometimes, I hope that I`d like to go the outside and enjoy without worrying time. I like traveling alone. Of course, I enjoy go somewhere with my friends because I can share joy,fun and excitement with them. However, when I am tired, I`d like to travel as I like. If I travel alone, I can spend my time in a carefree!! For me, to travel means to go to the world which has no troubles and hardships.

I prefer to go somewhere with my friend during my holiday.However,My best friend isn't same university student.she works at candy store almost everday.In addition,Her house so far from my house.So,I can't often meet her.Therefore,It has a pleasant time for me to go somewhere with
her.Especially,I can spend most fun time to chatting with my friend when we eat meals.
Some people don't want to cost a lots of money to go somewhere.But,I don't oblivious them.This is because, It can be to depress stress and lead a full days.

I want to travel somewhere now. So, I prefer traveling because I need to feel refreshed.I have been busy every day since I began to work another job. I feel like being pushed for time these days. It is difficult for me to balance my jobs with school. I'm sure traveling would release me from such a busy day!
I especially want to travel to France now because I'm learning to study French.

Actually, I agree with Kris and Midori. There are two reasons for this. First, I like traveling very much. When I was child, I went to travel many places with my family. These travels were very fun. Second, I don't like staying at home alone especially holiday. I feel it boring. That's way I prefer go traveling to stay at home.

Thanks for your comments, guys. It seems that most people enjoy traveling during their holidays. Midori, Fumiko and Yuki noted that spending one’s holiday at home can be quite boring, and even a waste of time if all we do is sleep or surf the net. Yui mentioned that traveling can be refreshing, and a good break from the stresses of everyday life. Traveling can be a good chance to catch up with friends (Ayaka, Mika) and enjoy the local food (Yuki, Yuji). On the other hand, some people noted some disadvantages of traveling, in particular the expense (Tomoe, Hiroko) and crowd (Tomoe, Yuji) factors. So, it seems that sometimes we need to just chill out at home, doing nothing, to re-charge our batteries (Midori). But, many people also believe that going traveling can be another great way to feel alive! Good work guys!!
